Configure the Detection Areas
By using smaller detection areas you get better motion detection
with less false triggers. Let’s take a look at some sample configu-
rations.
Adjust the Activity Threshold
The activity threshold can be adjusted for each detection
area. The default setting is mid position and that will work
well for most detections. However by taking the time to test
the scene and fine tune this setting, a higher success rate of
detections can be achieved.
REMEMBER - - A lower activity threshold value will cause the
camera to trigger more readily.
By following these guidelines, a high degree of valid motion
detections can be attained. However, because of the many
variables that can cause unwanted motion detection there is
no way to eliminate all undesired motion detection.
In the picture above, we avoid outdoor lighting and focus on three
capture areas; the stairway, far hallway, and near hallway.
This room has two walls of outdoor lighting that can cause prob-
lems. In this case, three detection areas were used. One area
covers possible intrusion from the windows, another covers the
stairs, and lastly one covers the hall with adjacent room.
This entryway is surrounded by side glass panes that are subject
to external lighting changes. Further, shadows caused by delivery
people and mail people may trigger motion. In this case we chose
one simple detection area that would trigger when the doors are
opened.
